Flying Premium - Virgin Atlantic
So, last weekend Matt and I embarked on a crazy dash to NYC all for just over 30 hours, to see a show. Whilst most people would probably think of this kind of trip as their worst nightmare - this is literally my idea of fun!
Matt and I took separate flights for this trip, as he had more time off available than I did and we chose to fly ‘Economy Light’ meaning you don’t get any luggage included with your ticket except hand luggage; which was fine as we wouldn’t need much anyway.
In the interests of time, I had already booked myself an exit row seat in economy and checked in so there would be zero stress at the airport.
Upon arrival at the gate to board the plane, I was advised that I had been upgraded to premium. This has never ever happened to me before and honestly, when it happened I was beyond excited! I’ve only ever flown economy previously and have been frantically saving my points to one day experience upper class! So to be able to experience premium unexpectedly was literally the dream!
So, was it any different from Economy and would I do it again?
The answer to both questions, is absolutely YES!!
For starters, sitting close to the front of the plane means a speedy exit upon landing and as time was critical on this trip, then this alone was a godsend. I can’t stand the wait to get off of planes usually, I just want to get to where I need to be ASAP!
Secondly, I found the food much better than economy and you get proper cutlery instead of plastic, which of course, makes things so much easier! You also get proper glasses, dishes and THE cutest salt and pepper shakers (which I may have kept - don’t worry, I did ask ;) )
The seats are bigger and more comfy than those in economy. They obviously recline but also have adjustable foot rests which I found made the journey a whole lot more comfortable. As there was only the bulkhead in front of me, I had more than enough leg room and could easily get out of my seat to move around.
The entertainment, I understand to be the same as the entertainment offered in economy, although as our flight was on a brand new plane, this was difficult to verify.
The blankets, instead of being economy red, are purple in the premium cabin!
The flight took over 7 hours, but felt much shorter than when flying in economy. I literally had THE best time and it was such a great experience - I am SO SO thankful and grateful for the team at Virgin for this opportunity!
I cannot wait to experience it on board again soon! I’ll keep saving those points to work towards Upper Class ;)
